Happy 100th Birthday Isabella
Cleveland Bowls Club lady members gathered at the Club on Thursday 8th December
to celebrate the upcoming 100th birthday of long time member and Patron Isabella Dallas.
Isabella was born in Melbourne on the 20th of December 1911. She joined our Club in 1964 and played bowls until recently. In her speech, the guest of honour mentioned that her long life was probably the result of healthy food and no smoking, and not until the age of 99 did she have to slow down a little.
Margaret Vincent, a Board Director of Bowls Queensland presented Isabella with the 100 year medallion.
The Mayor of Cleveland City Melva Hobson, Chairman of the board of the Cleveland Bowls Club Barry Davis and Ladies Branch President Mary Grodecki led the congratulations for Isabella on this happy occasion.
CLEVELAND GIRLS DO IT AGAIN!
Cleveland Bowls Club added another title to their achievements in recent events.
The Cleveland Ladies won the BRONZE Section of the Taylor Bowls Super Challenge 2011, at the Tweed Heads Bowls Club on Sunday the 10th of April.
The squad of nine ladies took the Title playing Broadbeach Ladies in the Grand Final in front of a huge crowd enjoying the excitement as well as the glorious weather.
The 4's team of Gwen Barter, Elaine Nutley, Kate Gibson and skip Lyn Malone went to a nail biting finish to go down by one shot to Broadbeach with a score of 18-19.
The Triples team of Kay Smith, Kerry Heelass and skip Sandra Banks were on a winning streak leading the game and finished with a score of 34-16. The margin of 17 shots overall sealed the victory to Cleveland. Reserves for the day were Betty Clarke and Shirley Krauze who gave girls great support both vocally and morally. THe squad went through the competition undefeated, such a glorious effort for the Club. The prize money for winning the final was $4000.00.
The Super Challenge season runs from February to April and the squad played 13 games, Clubs included Condong, Kingscliffe, Mt. Gravatt, Coolangatta, Moorooka, Robina, and Yeronga.
The Round Robin event played at the Broadbeach Club consisted of Tugun, Coolangatta, and Mermaid Beach. Quarter Final held at the Tweed Heads Club was against Caloundra, Semi-final against Mooroochy Beach, and the Final against Broadbeach.
During the Competition our girls played 26 games of bowls, with 637 ends, and a total score of 668 for, and 491 against.
CLEVELAND LADY BOWLERS TOP THE STATE
Christened the Bayside Battlers by one journalist and written off by another the Cleveland Ladies 1st Division Pennant team proved them all wrong last weekend at Bribie Island Bowls Club. The 8 best ladies teams from all areas of the state slugged it out over three rounds and then the best 2 teams played the final game in front of a huge crowd of vocal supporters, many from Cleveland and other bayside clubs.
Teams were from Yeppoon, Broadbeach, Bribie Island, Cleveland, North Mackay, West Toowoomba, Kandanga and Townsville Suburban.
The Cleveland Ladies won the State Pennant title defeating North Mackiay 57-52 in a nail biting finish. This first ever State Pennant win, rounds off a great year for the Cleveland Ladies Bowls Club.
